I walked into the 5-seat coffee shop next to my apartment to complete my first assignment for Japanese class. I left with a new friend. Teru owns and operates Tatjana, roasts and brews the coffee, cooks japanese spaghetti in a wok over the 2-burner gas stove. He carves the designs for the coffee bags and t-shirts out of linoleum blocks.
I made this book with used grounds from Teru's coffee and phrases from the shop and menu and illustrations that you can smile at. Me and two friends had an art show in the tiny attic of Tatjana and Teru fed us honey coffee and beans on toast all weekend. I gave this book to Teru as a gift when I left Tokyo.
